Old TV and New TV. Analog and Digital Television
Digital TV pertains to high-definition television and several other applications that include standard definition television, datacasting, multicasting and interactivity transforming the whole TV viewing experience having better broadcast of better picture and sound quality.
Digital TV Is Not New
Digital television is not really a new technology and has existed in the late 90’s, more or less a decade ago and this technology has co-existed with analog TV. TV broadcasting stations were serving both worlds, analog and digital TV. With the constant increase increase of digital TV’s cable television, IP-based television, and the increase of digital video recorders, there is still a significant amount of people that watch television over-the-air and is running analog TV that has been their setup for more than 15 years in their house hold.
Although analog television technology still works, it’s inferiorness has been the motive for some countries to simply phase out this technology.
Phaseout of Analog Television
The United States government has decided to phase out all analog television broadcasting on February 17, 2009. A government initiative like this is also not new. Netherlands was the first in 2006, Finland in 2007.
Puerto Rico is expected to also phaseout analog TV at the same time as the US. Canada on August 31, 2011.
Analog TVs will no longer work in the United States by February 17, 2009
If you own an old television set running on indoor rabbit-ear antennas, or any sort of antenna that could also be hooked up to your residence roof, you will no longer receive any broadcasting channels by February 17, 2009. If for any reason, you cannot replace your television set yet, you can opt to buy a digital to analog converter box along with a digital TV antenna.
Since the government is phasing out the analog TV signal, the government also does not want analog TV owners to complain to the goverment thus has given the chance for thes owners to get a government issued coupon to buy digital to analog conversion boxes and antennas at a cheaper price. If you want to avail these coupons, you also have to make sure you get from a supplier that accepts these coupons. On this website, that has just started with its initial blog post, we will be posting more information of various digital-to-analog television converter box products, digital tv antennas and other accessories, with their product descriptions, prices and the best suppliers online.
