This product performed worse than the $3.00 rabbit ears that I am currently using. I could only receive 2 of the stations that I was getting before.

This product barely beats a $3 rabbit ear antenae

I bought this when my $3 rabbit ears were unstable in cloudy weather. With all the additional cost and effort to install this, the difference is hard to even notice. Both work in clear sky weather but I was expecting more for 20X the cost. I really only needed it when my satellite picture fails during heavy rain but that is sure to have clouds so I expect it was a waste of money altogether.

What’s great about it: Automatically selects the best antenna setting using “Smart Antenna” technology.
What’s not so great: Can’t seem to ever get NBC.

“Using the RCA ANT2000 in conjunction with the RCA DTA800 DTV converter box provides excellent picture and sound quality without having to adjust the antenna. Channel surfing is also fast and flawless. Somehow it seems to remember the best antenna selection for each channel. Using the Menu on the RCA DTA800 DTV converter box allows you to manually pick the antenna setting if you don’t like the automatically selected setting. It does require you to locate the best position initially though. For example, I first chose to put the antenna flat on top of my DVD player but the results were disappointing with reception of only 21 of 26 possible tv stations. I moved the antenna to behind the tv stand leaning up against the wall (standing up on it’s side) and reception went up to 25 of 26 possible stations. In my area of downtown Seattle, I can never get NBC if I have any antenna positioned to receive all the other stations and this is no different. Bottom line – I’m very pleased with this purchase. You should know that you have to have a TV or set top box that has a smart antenna jack (looks like a phone jack) to get the benefits of this antenna. Love it.”

    Works Great

This antenna worked as advertized. Paired with the DTA800B1 it worked wonders. Remember this antenna is a smart antenna and only works if your TV/Converter Box has a CEA909 port. This port is required to make this antenna work. If you don’t have the 909 port, then look at the ANT1500. Same antenna but without the “Smart” feature and will work as a normal antenna would.

    did not perform

product performed below standards. my $3.00 rabbit ears performed much better. this product is overpriced and does not locate digital stations as “the smart antenna” claims. Located 4 stations whereas rabbit ears located 13 stations. would not recommend

    Can’t get it to work

Maybe it’s because I live miles away from town, but the antenna does not work at all. I connected it to the RCA converter box and my television. The Full Scan feature ran for an hour, but could find no channels.

    better to go cheaper

This product was twice as expensive as the one 2 steps down, but the cheaper antenna works better! We couldn’t get a lot of channels and it responded very badly to our movement. It seemed that it was TOO sensitive. We ended up returning it and getting the cheaper antenna, which now gives us all of the channels available! Get the RCA flat antenna that they carry in the store!!

    very diappointed

I had hoped that this “smart antenna” would provide me with the increased performance that I had ben been led to beleive it would be capable of.
Unfortunately after trying it on 3 Different TV’S and 3 different convertor boxes, I found that my existing analog antennas actually picked more channels. and had a higher performance rating per the convertor box.

    Mixed results for distant(30m) stations

Hooked this up to a DTA800 converter to replace rabbit ears. It found 39 stations, but it still can not reliably tune in the 5 major network stations that are 30 miles away. One not at all and 4 with occasional pixelation. The rabbit ears do a little better, but you have keep aiming the rabbit ears for the best reception. So overall a mixed bag, not the solution I was looking for, but for the stations that do come in, there is no hassle of re-aiming the rabbit ears. Some 30 mile away stations come in fine.

    RCA Indoor Smart TV Antenna

What’s great about it: It was easy to set up
What’s not so great: Not easy to find a smart box and it only worked for one day before it froze up

“I have been having trouble getting clear pictures (Pictures from most channels breaking up) or no picture/signal. I thought this would solve the problem. Found out I would have to buy a new converter box to use it, but I am so frustrated I bought both. It lasted for one night and then the thing would only bring in channel 5 and the remote wouldn’t change channels. I went back to my old one, very disappointed. and figured why pay more for something that worked worse than what I had.”

Better than Rca Ant 1500, but not as good as expected. It’s still position sensitive. Picture quality
depends on where you place it. Some location gives
stronger signal (the strongest around 20-30). But it
works OK to get digital reception.

    Great SMART Antenna

Only works with converter boxes (TV’s will have them in 2009) that have the SMART Antenna connector (looks like off set phone jack). I found the Quick search was best to start with to find the best placement, then the LONG Full Search (1hour!) locked in reception. Not as subject to interference as rabbit ears with RCA DTA800 was. I have tried over 10 other antennae and this one is BEST

    Works Great

Product work well (in Downtown San Diego), with one exception – no channel for CBS. Got all the other channels, even some digital channels, but no CBS. Will continue to use SMART antenna until a better, more permanent solution can be afforded. I would recommend purchasing this product.

The last review was 6-7 months ago. I wonder how this RCA Smart Antenna is working for people now that more stations have switched to digital?

I was looking for RCA because I have an old RCA “amplified rabbit ears” from Walmart and it gets more digital channels than the old “amplified Sony rabbit ears” that I have. So I was going to look for an RCA “digital antenna” (and one of my DTV boxes does have the “smart port”/ie, the Tivax STB8 box).

But after reading these reviews, I dunno…. It doesn’t sound too promising.

Antennaweb.org says I need an “Amplified MEDIUM Multi-Directional Antenna” but I can’t find one that says “MEDIUM.”

All this digital mess is the most frustrating thing. Plain Ol’ TV as it was was FINE with me. ;-/
